Statewide Communications
The state must provide guidance and make the necessary budgetary commitment for multilingual communications. It is critical for Latinx communities to receive timely, accessible, and culturally and linguistically appropriate (Spanish and Indigenous languages and dialects) information that is distributed in multiple forms. This work must be paired with access to navigation support through trusted community partners. Failure to invest in equity-centered statewide communication systems and practices, has had major health implications for our communities and cost lives during this pandemic. We urge the state to:
Make it stand out.
Dedicate
Dedicate substantial resources to the development and implementation of coordinated, comprehensive Latinx/a/o and indigenous Mesoamerican community communications plan that will provide valuable guidance and create accountabilities for all government entities.
Invest
Invest more deeply in the multilingual network of culturally responsive interpreters and translators across all sectors. This includes investing in professional development to grow, diversify, and maintain this network over time.
access
Invest in Statewide, especially rural, Broadband infrastructure and access, prioritizing communities dealing with the intersection of racial and rural inequities.
